Coldwater Cavaliers -- 9-6 (4-3)

Big up's to C Town as they picked up their 3rd and 4th straight wins. Keep it up boys....

Cavaliers Grab #1 Seed

The Coldwater Cavaliers Men's B Ball Squad grabbed the one seed in the Elida sectional for the Division Three State Tournament. The Cavs will have a bye in round one, then advance to play the winner of the Parkway/Spencerville game. After C Town rolls through round two (showin my confidence here), they will most likely match up again Archibold and will probably run into L.C.C. or MAC foe St Henry at The Canyon in Napoleon.

Timely Free Throws Seal Win

The Redskins from Laromie traveled to The Palace to take on The Cavs last Saturday. Although they staged a valliant comeback, they left completely empty-handed. After jumping out to an early 18-8 lead after one, the Skins fought back to close the gap within one point at the half. The Cavs' shooting woes ended in the second half as they shot very impressively to keep a decent lead over Laromie. Matt Lefeld, who scored 17 points, completely turned his night around in the 2nd after a very sluggish first half. Kyle Heyne kept up his pace as he knocked down 19. Coldwater then notched 17 and 25 points respectively to ward off the Redskins comeback. They rode 11-16 shooting from the line to build a comfortable lead and finished off Ft Laromie 72-56.

Coldwater over Parkway

Congrats out to the C Town crew as they picked up a nice win over a struggling Parkway squad Friday night. The Cavs built up an early lead and held it all night. Pacing C Town was Kyle Heyne (20 pts) and Kevin Hoyng (16). Coach Vogt, in his first trip back to Parkway, was welcomed with boos from the Panther crowd. Obviously, he made the correct move to Coldwater where we have class. Thanks a lot Coach Vogt, and keep up the good work.

Coldwater over Marion Local In OT

Anyone who attended the game last night (1-18-01) knows what an intense game it was. Oliver Prunell (UD head coach who was scouting Lefeld and Roeckner) got to see first hand what the MAC is all about. The game panned out to be a classic MAC battle with two great teams and a packed house in The Palace. Marion Local jumped out to an early 16-11 lead after one. No one seemed concerned because Coldwater always starts off slow. Matt Roeckner continued his stellar performance in the second quarter. His 14-18 foot jumpshot was killing the Cavaliers. While Roeckner was handling things on O, Marion's vacuum tight defense was shutting down the C Town Offense. The Cavs trailed 37-23 going into the lockerrooms at halftime. During the intermission Coach Don Vogt once again proved himself by getting the guys jacked for the second half. Coldwater emerged from the break with a mission to accomplish. They began taking advantage of the Marion Local errors stealing numerous passes before the Flyers could bring the ball down. C Town started to get some momentum riding on Kyle Heyne three pointers and big shots down low by Matt. The Flyers still held a 7 point advantage after three. The beginning of the fourth and final quarter brought the house down. The fans started getting back into the game and the players took off from their. Kevin Hoyng's penetrating drives were ripping the Flyer D apart. Matt Lefeld continued his dominance in the paint. As tje game wound down, it grew closer and closer. With less than two minutes remaining, Coldwater came within three on two separate occasions. The Flyers were hitting just enough free throws to keep the lead out of grasp. With 13.8 seconds left, Coldwater sent Flyer Craig Wolters to the line with a three point lead. The pressure got to Wolters as he missed both and C Town pulled down the board. After some quick passing and dribbling, Forward Kyle Heyne stood 25 feet from the basket with the ball in his hands and 4 seconds on the clock. He threw up a desparation shot and banked in the game tying basket to send the contest into overtime. In OT the Cavs kept the momentum rolling with some quick baskets by Matt Lefeld and Kyle Heyne. Some good free throw shooting put the game out of reach for the Flyers and when the buzzer sounded the place erupted. About 150 students charged the floor in a fury to congratulate their friends and classmates. Leading all scorers was C Town Center Matt Lefeld with 21 points, Kyle Heyne added 17 and Adam Wenning's 10 rounded out Coldwater's double figure scorers. Matt Roeckner's 18 and Craig Wolters' 15 points were high's for Marion Local. The win pushed Coldwater to (6-4)(3-2) and drops Marion to (7-3)(3-1). The Cavs host Jay County (IN) tonight at the Palace.

St Henry Holds Off Valient Coldwater Rally

St Henry came out on absolute fire as they jumped out to an early 20-4 lead. The game stayed that way for quite sometime seeing constant makes by St Henry standout Todd Boeckman. The Cavs gave a heroic late push, but the skins were simply too much. Boeckman led all scorers with 26.

Coldwater Fights Off New Knoxville

C Town brought the house down with another down-to-the-wire game. After opening the game sharp leading 10-4 at one point, the Cavs went on a sudden skid and score only 4 points in the 2nd period. Down 29-16 at the half, Coach Vogt got his players motivated. The Daily Standard quoted him as saying "I got a little upset at halftime, but I feel if I don't I'm not giving the guys 110%, and that wouldn't be doing my job." That is exactly what we need here in C Town to get the B Ball program back on its feet. Whatever Coach Vogt said to his guys, it worked. Opening the 3rd quarter, the team, crowd, and The O Zone were pumped. The Cavs jumped out early on a 14-4 run. 6'11 Center Matt Lefeld scored four straight baskets at one point. Coldwater's huge run in the third cut the defecit to 35-34 at the end of three. The Cavs got great play from everyone in the fourth. Constant pressure on Knoxville standout Marcus Borgerding from the C Town D left him out of the game. Constant pressure from The O Zone also took him out of the game. Borgerding, usually the majority of the Rangers Offense, shot a dismal 4-16 from the floor. A total team effort in the fourth ensured a 53-48 victory for the Cavs. Leading scorers on the night were Matt Lefeld 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 6'5 Forward Kyle Heyne chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Nice job on the win Cavs.

C Town Picks Up Big OT Win @ Lima

When everyone saw what Lima Bath did to Marion Local, people started putting them up on a pretty high pedistal. Coach Don Vogt obviously made sure his players didn't. The Cavs traveled to Lima last Saturday and played their hearts out. C Town received some great performances from the big men down low. Adam Wenning poured in a game high 19 points and also tacked on 9 rebounds. Matt Lefeld added 16 points and 11 boards for his 3rd double double of the year. The game went back and forth eventually heading into OT. The Cavs finally pulled out of reach and sealed off a 69-63 OT victory. Nice job Cavs.

Coldwater Falls To Elida 56-40

C Town lost a disappointing match to the visiting Elida Bulldogs. Drew Adams could simply not be stopped. He was hitting everything he shot and when he did miss, the breaks seemed to go to Elida. It was just one of those nights. The Cavs couldn't buy a shot. The one good thing that came out of the contest was that it was a non-league game.

Coldwater Picks Up Two Big Wins Over The Weekend

C Town picked up both a league victory and a non league win over the weekend. They evened up their league record with a vital win of MAC foe Minster. The Cavs received huge performances from 6'11 Junior, Matt Lefeld. Lefeld piled up 24 points and pulled down 13 boards. 6'4 Minster Forward Dustin Sommer put up 18 in a losing effort.

On Saturday, The Cavs welcomed The Raiders of Wayne Trace to the Palace. Kyle Heyne got the Cavaliers rolling early with 8 of the team's 10 points. Trace led 13-10 after one. Enter Kevin Hoyng. Hoyng, a 6'0 junior (who is still getting over the football soreness), took total control of the game. He ran the point to perfection, mixing the ball around to every player on the team. He also began penetrating which caused major problems for the Wayne Trace defense. Hoyng would hit two late 2nd Quarter threes to give the home team a commanding 27-19 lead going into the locker room. The 3rd Quarter, Coldwater's Achilles Heel all season, however was once again a let down. The raiders outscored the Cavs 17-11. The fourth quarter belonged to C Town. Wayne Trace was in fould trouble and Coldwater exploited this. They hit 11-14 from the charity stripe to seal the 54-44 victory. Leading scorers -- Kevin Hoyng -18, Kyle Heyne -14, Matt Lefeld -10. Heyne also pulled down 10 boards and Lefeld grabbed 8.
